Fishing company Cornelis Vrolijk of IJmuiden has acquired a stake in Garnalenpelcentrum (GPC) Kant in Lauwersoog, Groningen. The participation fits into Cornelis Vrolijk's strategy to produce a high-quality, healthy and sustainable fish product from ship to shelf. Hogenhouck assisted Cornelis Vrolijk in this transaction.
Patented shrimp peeling machines for durability and quality
GPC Kant focuses on the machine peeling of the Dutch shrimp Crangon Crangon and the pink shrimp Pandalus Borealis with shrimp peeling machines developed and patented in-house. The advantages of machine peeling are a lower CO2 footprint, the possibility of reducing preservatives and speed. The shrimp that were still swimming in the sea yesterday can be peeled today and be with the customer tomorrow. This makes machine peeling a sustainable alternative to hand peeling abroad. The taste, smell, color and structure of the day-fresh shrimp are not lost during the peeling process.
Contribution to CO2 reduction fits within CSR policy
According to Annerieke Vrolijk, director of Cornelis Vrolijk, the company is strengthening its position with the machine peeling of shrimp. "The activities of GPC Kant fit well with the activities of Cornelis Vrolijk. GPC Kant is an expert in the field of shrimp machine peeling. This leads to a significant CO2 reduction, which is in line with Cornelis Vrolijk's vision of corporate social responsibility."
Both Cornelis Vrolijk and GPC Kant are characterized by a family culture where craftsmanship is paramount. The daily management of GPC Kant remains in the hands of the Kant brothers. Alfred Kant, director at GPC Kant: "As with Cornelis Vrolijk, continuity, integrity, product innovation and reliability are of great importance to us. With the knowledge and network of Cornelis Vrolijk we are taking a step forward".
