On January 2, 2020, both Gustav Gym locations in Amsterdam were acquired by Urban Gym Group.
New Step in Growth Strategy Through Acquisition
“Our goal is to become the market leader in the downtown areas of the Netherlands’ largest cities,” say owners Han Doorenbosch and Marjolijn Meijer. “With the acquisition of Gustav Gym’s two leading clubs, we’re taking another significant step toward that goal. Gustav Gym’s strengths will be preserved, and over time we’ll incorporate the strong elements of Urban Gym Group.” In the summer of 2020, the Zuidas location will be converted into a Clubsportive, and the downtown location will become a TrainMore. The former owners of Gustav Gym, Jeroen Timmerman and Pieter Pleunis, will remain involved during the transition period. Pleunis: “We are proud to have been able to transfer our clubs to the innovative and successful Urban Gym Group. Together, we will ensure that the transition goes smoothly for current and new members.”
