Cornelis Vrolijk is an international fishing company active in catching, farming, processing and trading fish. Including partnerships, Cornelis Vrolijk employs more than 2,000 people worldwide. In recent years Cornelis Vrolijk has strengthened its position in the fish chain with the acquisition of a number of fish processing companies in the Netherlands and Belgium. Haasnoot Vis BV and Neptunus Seafood BV are a good addition to the already existing activities of these companies. Cornelis Vrolijk and Haasnoot are characterized by outstanding craftsmanship, in which quality, reliability and sustainability are important values.

Economies of scale in sales to consumers

Haasnoot Vis is innovative in developing new (herring) products and has a strong position in the sale of herring and fish to consumers in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. In addition to the synergy between the companies, Cornelis Vrolijk also expects to achieve economies of scale by combining commerce and production.

Van ‘schip naar schap’-strategie in de visketen

Director Annerieke Vrolijk says that this acquisition fits into the further development of Cornelis Vrolijk's "from ship to shelf" strategy: "With this acquisition and the addition of Mr. Martin and Mr. Kees Haasnoot to our organization, we are broadening our assortment, strength and innovative capacity. During the acquisition process, we have become enthusiastic about the possibilities of continuing to provide consumers in the Netherlands and surrounding countries with high-quality fish and shrimp products."

Namesakes continue work

Messrs. Haasnoot, who will continue their operations in the new group, are positive about the opportunities offered by the integration of Haasnoot Vis and Neptunus within Cornelis Vrolijk. "It is a challenge to further expand our position in the consumer market with the opportunities within Cornelis Vrolijk," said Martin Haasnoot. "We will use our knowledge and expertise in the European fish market to develop beautiful fish products with the consumer as the starting point."

Consistent expansion of the strategy

Hogenhouck m&a assisted Cornelis Vrolijk in this acquisition. Mark van Beusekom, partner at Hogenhouck m&a, on this transaction: "Cornelis Vrolijk's 'from ship to shelf' strategy forms the basis of the consistent expansion of the group of companies. The acquisition of Haasnoot Vis and Neptunus Seafood is a nice step forward."
