TrainMore is expanding with the acquisition of Sports World Amsterdam. Sports World has been operating in Amsterdam as a lifestyle and health specialist since 1989. TrainMore has locations in Amsterdam (5 locations), Rotterdam, Utrecht (2 locations), Haarlem, Groningen, The Hague, and Eindhoven, among other cities. Recently, Hogenhouck and Roodhals Capital raised acquisition financing for The Urban Gym Group, known for the nationwide active fitness chain TrainMore, Clubsportive, and High Studios.
TrainMore Turns Sports World into Amsterdam's Largest Urban Fitness Playground
The renowned Sports World health club in Amsterdam-East has been acquired by the fitness chain TrainMore. Current members can take advantage of a lower rate immediately. If they switch to the Black Label membership, they’ll receive a 1-euro discount for every workout. Renovations will begin in May 2019, transforming the 2,700 m² club into the largest urban fitness playground in Amsterdam.
TrainMore Black Label
Owners Han Doorenbosch and Marjolijn Meijer: “This will not only be the largest gym in Amsterdam, but also TrainMore’s second Black Label club. A luxurious urban playground that combines all fitness needs under one roof. The club will feature a very spacious fitness area and free weight zone. “Where an average gym has one bench press, we’ll have four here. And that’s how we’re building the entire gym,” says Doorenbosch. There will also be five in-house boutique studios. In the HIIT Box, HIGH Studios, Cycling Studio, and Brooklyn Fit-boxing Studio, specialized trainers will lead various forms of high-intensity interval training. Members can visit the Zenergy Yoga Studio for yoga classes and meditation. Meijer: “With our boutique studios, we’re responding to two major international trends in the fitness world: group training and high-intensity workouts.”
Market leader in the centers of major cities
This month, TrainMore, along with ClubSportive and High Studios (both also concepts by Doorenbosch and Meijer), was incorporated into the umbrella holding company Urban Gym Group. The new holding company raised 16 million euros in growth capital, which will help accelerate its growth. Doorenbosch: “The acquisition of Sports World is part of our ambition to become the market leader in the centers of the Netherlands’ largest cities.”
