Content authoring software provider Fonto acquired by RWS

Structured content authoring software provider Fonto, based in Rijswijk, has been acquired by RWS Holding, a global leader in structured and web content management technology. Hogenhouck m&a advised the owners of Fonto, Jan Benedictus and Taeke Kuyvenhoven, in this transaction.

The Future of Documents

The predecessor of the Fonto platform was developed in 2011. Nowadays, Fonto’s easy-to-use, browser-based authoring environment makes structured content authoring and review possible for anyone in an organization. The platform is being used by 1,000’s of experts working for organizations like Toyota, Starbucks, BBC, The United Nations, and Spotify where you’ll find people who create, edit and review mission-critical documents with Fonto. With a support and development team of more than 40 people, located in The Netherlands (The Hague) and Spain (Granada), Fonto supports over 30 partners and over 100 customers worldwide.

Business unit within RWS Group

Fonto will be a separate business unit within the RWS Group. Jan Benedictus and Taeke Kuyvenhoven, who founded Fonto, will continue to lead the company in this exciting new chapter. “RWS has been a long-time partner for Fonto and during that time we have found that we share a common vision about the future of documents and use of structured content,” said Jan Benedictus. “With RWS behind us, we strengthen our size, footprint and robustness to pursue our mission: to make ‘The Future of Documents’ a reality.”

Collaborate on high-value content

Fonto and RWS both focus deeply on the special content management needs of regulated industries, such as Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical and Finance. In these industries proper content compliance is extremely important. “The acquisition of Fonto enhances RWS’s leadership position in the structured content market and Fonto strengthens our ability to offer a set of governed authoring tools that enable teams to collaborate on their high-value content,” said Ian El-Mokadem, Chief Executive Officer of RWS.

Working closely with industry partners for growth

Fonto will continue to support a wide array of industry partners who integrate Fonto’s content authoring and reviewing tools into their technologies. “The Fonto team will continue to service and support our valued partners with the dedication they expect from us to shape ‘The Future of Documents’ for a broad range of applications,” said Taeke Kuyvenhoven.
